Every July, Bramcote, Thorncliffe and Pelsdon put their rivalries aside for a weekend of procession floats, a funfair on the recreation ground, and fireworks over the river to finish. This is BTP Carnival.
See this year's scheduleThe carnival started life as three separate, much smaller village fetes. In 1987 the committees decided that pooling resources — one funfair contractor, one procession route winding through all three villages, one shared fireworks budget — would let everyone put on a much bigger show than any single village could manage alone. The name BTP Carnival stuck, standing for Bramcote, Thorncliffe and Pelsdon, and nearly four decades on it's still run by volunteers from all three.
Two days of rides and stalls on Pelsdon Recreation Ground.
Decorated floats from local schools, clubs and businesses.
A twenty-minute display over the river to close Saturday night.
BTP Carnival has never had paid staff. Every float marshal, bucket-collector and stage steward gives up their weekend for it, and the money raised through entry donations and stalls goes straight back into the three villages — new playground equipment, minibus repairs for the scout group, that sort of thing.
